But you always say something without even knowing, That I am hanging onto your words with all my might.
Carmen yawned lazily in her warm bed as the sun peeked through her blinds, warming her face. She shifted around, trying to get the sun out of her eyes, with no luck. She grumbled, getting up slowly as the room spun. She closed her eyes for a moment, and glanced around. Alone. That was what Carmen hated the most. Waking up alone. Spending her day alone. Sure, she had met some people here already, but she didn’t know many. She stretched, slowly standing she walked into her bathroom, the dark hardwood flooring felt very cool to the bottom of her feet. She pushed open the cream coloured wooden door and shut it behind her. She reached over and turned on the water to the shower. Stepping out of her clothes she quickly got under the cold water, in hopes to wake herself up. It helped, shocking her skin, giving her goose bumps.
Once she was finished cleaning her body and hair, she shut the water off and stepped out of the large shower, grabbing the soft pink towel from the nearby rack. She dried herself off, then wrapped the towel around her middle section. Throwing her dirty clothes into the hamper, she opened the door all the way to get the steam off of the mirror. Returning to her room she scanned her closet to find something to wear. She settled on a pair of jean cut offs, a strapless bra, and a summery halter top that was loose and was a crisp blue, one that went well with her hair. Once she was changed, she returned to the bathroom to do her hair and make up. She didn’t put much make up on, keeping to her usual habits. She curled her hair, and then pinned her bangs up out of her face. She couldn’t stand them down for the whole day, preferring them pinned back with a few bobby pins. She checked herself once more, then left the bathroom, shutting the lights off as she left.
Going downstairs she put a cup of coffee on, never making more than one cup because that’s all she could drink in the morning. Throughout the day, well that was completely different. She could have about four or five cups before the day was finished. She opened up her laptop and set it onto the granite counter top of her island in the kitchen. She signed on to AIM and started to scan the online list. There were a few people that she knew were on. She opened a few chat boxes and started to talk to the people she knew. Maybe the reason why she didn’t know many people was because she could be a bit shy. She could barely talk to a stranger over the internet, never mind walking up to someone and starting a conversation. And then there was always the issue about what to talk about. Carmen could never think of anything interesting, or funny, or just plain old cool. She left the laptop for a moment to pour her cup of coffee and add some sugar and cream to it.
Returning to the laptop, she settled on a high bar chair. She set the cup down to cool the coffee a bit more, and typed something to her friends. She sipped at her cup. She did this for about half an hour. When she finished with her coffee, she said bye to the people she was chatting with and changed her status to ‘away’. She shut her lap top, after locking it. Then she stood, and rinsed out her cup. Putting it into the dishwasher she sighed, looking out one of the large windows to the beautiful day outside. But what to do? She had been wandering around lately, in her free time. She worked as a waitress at Café Tropico, but she had the day off today. It made her feel empty and bored. When she had work, it gave her something to do, to entertain her mind. Finally she decided that she’d go to the Tropico Bakery. She’d heard of it before, but had never ventured there. Hopefully there’d be someone there who would talk to her.
Grabbing her car keys while she slipped on her flip flops she decided that she’d walk. Her home wasn’t that far away from the town. She returned her car keys, but took her purse and put her house keys in there along with her cell phone. Swinging it onto her shoulder she headed for the door. She locked it, shutting it behind her. Walking down the steps to the sidewalk, she dug out her sunglasses from her purse. It was a bright and cheery day, too bad Carmen didn’t quite feel like that today. She walked in silence to the bakery, no iPod to blare her country music. She listened to the birds chirping, the cars moving around, the people chatting and greeting one another when they ran into someone they knew. This place had to be the most relaxed town that Carmen had ever been in. She thought that Austin, Texas was the nicest place, but apparently not.
Pushing open the glass door to the bakery, Carmen’s nose was assaulted with the smell of baking goods. She smiled, pushing her sunglasses up onto her head. Walking farther in, she saw a few people sitting around. She smiled when they smiled at her, being polite because she didn’t know them. She walked to the cashier, after browsing through all of the warm goodies. She finally decided to just get a bagel, and then added a chocolate chip cookie to that. So what if it was early in the day? She didn’t care, the smell had woken up her sweet tooth. Once she got her change, she turned, bagel and cookie in her hands. She found a small table, seating only two and sat down at it. It was near the window, so she could watch people as they went on with their day. Unwrapping her bagel with cream cheese, she took a bite of it. She closed her eyes briefly in pleasure, it tasted so good! Better than any other bagel she’d tasted.
She put her purse on her lap, she hated it when she had to put it on the floor. She slowly ate her bagel, looking out the large clean windows at the people. She liked watching people go about their day, it may seem or sound weird, but that’s what she used to do with her friends back in Texas. They’d go shopping at the mall, and then when they were at the food court, they’d watch people go about their days. There was so many different kinds of people, it never ceased to amaze Carmen at the variety of styles that people wore. She was lost in thought, staring out the window, eating her bagel when she heard a clash in what was probably the kitchen in the back. She glanced over, but turned her head to look out the window shortly after. She continued to watch as more people started to hit the streets, and less cars appeared. [/blockquote][/color]
